Record year for Vienna stays

I read an article the other day in the online edition of austriantimes.at and it talks about the tourism in Vienna.

I thought you might be interested because Vienna is the capital city of Austria.

Basically what it talks about is that Vienna recorded its second best year ever for overnight stays in 2009. Tourist overnights in Vienna stood at 9.8 million last year but were down year on year on the record of 2008.
It also says that turnover in the city hotel industry had fallen year on year to about 380 million Euros last year as hoteliers lowered their prices because of recession.
City tourism director Norbert Kettner added, that figures put Vienna in the middles in terms of hotels in European cities.

What surprised me is the fact that Vienna recorded its second best year in 2009, although there has been the financial crisis. Overnights tourists in Vienna had spent an average of 300 Euros last year. That had been 50 per cent more than the Austrian average.

Vocabulary:
turnover (Umsatz): The turnover had fallen to about 300 Euros.
