My community

My community is Pregarten.

Pregarten is located in the heart of the lower "Mühlviertel", about 20 km northeast of Linz and 35 km south of the border to the Czech Republic. It covers an area of 27,77 square kilometers and it has about 50 000 inhabitants. Pregarten is surrounded by the romantic rivers Waldaist and Feldaist.
Due to its central location in the federal state of "Upper Austria" it has become a popular place to live. Its accessibility has favoured the economic importance of Pregarten.
Pregarten is recognized as the second largest community in the borough of Freistadt.

Pregarten was an early settlement. It appeared in documents dated in 1230. It became a market town in 1459 and has been recognized as a town since 2003. Our mayor is called Anton Scheuwimmer and he is a member of the People's Party.

The main attractions in Pregarten are the gothic style church, the "Mariensäule", Calvery Chapel, the chapel in Grünbichl and the "Bruckmühle".

For sport and leisure there are a lot of hiking paths, the outdoor swimming pool "Lagune", the indoor swiming pool and the UNION and ASKÖ sport clubs.
